Today, Donald Trump met with Vladimir Putin to negotiate a ceasefire in Ukraine. Nothing came of the meeting, and the Ukraine War rages on. The easiest way to end the war in Ukraine is to simply stop sending Zelinsky money that he uses to line his pockets and stop sending him weapons that he sells on the black market to our enemies. Maybe I'm being naive, but it seems to me that cutting off funding and arms to Ukraine will not only end the war, but it will also unseat an illegitimate dictator and stop illegal weapons from getting to Mexican cartels and Middle Eastern terrorists. I think Trump and Putin talked about that.
The meeting ended on pleasant terms with Putin inviting Trump to meet next in Moscow. A Moscow meeting would be good for both countries. It could result in a trade agreement. Trade with Russia would be good for both countries. Russia is rich in natural resources that the United States needs, and trade with the United States could boost Russia's economy. A trade alliance between the United States and Russia would benefit both countries. After all, what could be wrong with being friends with Russia? Any historian worth their salt can tell you Russia would dearly love to call the United States a friend.
A Russo-American friendship would have an impact around the world. Europe would be stabilized. China would be denied an ally to use against the United States and weaken its influence on North Korea. Russia's ambitions to become capitalist could become realized, and Cuba could return to capitalism and democracy, which would reunite generations of Cubans in the island nation and those exiled in Florida. There would be significantly more benefits to a social and economic partnership with Russia than the current state of antagonism.
